Ashiatsu Massage is dubbed the “deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet”. Unlike traditional remedial massage, Ashiatsu is delivered via the therapists (clean, sanitized, warm, soft, well-trained) feet. By using the feet as the tool, the RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) is able to take advantage of body weight and gravity to apply and maintain deep, constant pressure. This unique form of massage is a very deep, yet extraordinarily relaxing massage. It’s more than just “walking on a back”, as it uses deep compression and effleurage strokes that glide slowly and smoothly over the body. This allows for deep, broad compression without sharp discomfort.
Traditions of barefoot massage have existed for thousands of years and span the globe including Japan, India, Philippines and more. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is based on these traditional barefoot techniques, and was brought to the American mainstream spa and massage industries in 1999, and is now in top spas throughout the USA such as The Bellagio.
Ashiatsu can benefit all body types, especially those with tight, restricted muscle movement or chronic pain. Benefiting clients range from professional athletes, to physical labourers, people with a desk job, or simply someone who is just looking for a deep and relaxing massage.
Ruthie Hardee is the founder of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, which is where we received our training. Please feel free to visit the website www.deepfeet.com to learn more about it.
Deep Tissue/Remedial Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is massage therapy that focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscles & connective tissue. It is most beneficial for tight and tense muscles or over-worked areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, sore shoulders and legs. Some of the same strokes are used in Swedish Massage Therapy, but the movement is somewhat slower and the pressure applied is deeper and always focuses on areas of tension. It is important during deep tissue massage to inform your therapist if pressure is too heavy or too light
Hot Stone Massage
If an escape from the cold winter months is what you're looking for, you'll find it in our Hot Stone Massage. Our stone's are heated and placed along the spine and other areas of the body as the therapist works in fluid motions rolling the oiled stones over the skin, acting as a warm and comforting extension of their hands.
Myofascial Cupping is a modified version of the ancient Eastern style cupping which differs by specifically targeting the Musculo-Skeletal system rather than the meridian systems used by traditional Chinese practitioners. It also uses plastic cups and vacuum suction rather than glass cups and a naked flame to create suction. A hand operated vacuum pump is used to induce a vacuum inside a cylinder sealed to the skin by the use of oil or cream. The vacuum “draws” the soft tissue perpendicular to the skin thus providing a tensile force to the soft tissue system, which can be left in one site for a prolonged period or moved along the tissue.
